Emerging from the Box—the Power of Positive Thinking
Truth be told, man is not meant to sit in a 9x9 cubicle and stare into a computer screen all day. While some may point to the obvious lack of exercise, the biggest problem with this scenario is the corporate atmosphere, which can be filled with negative people. Far too often, we allow these people to steal our joy, undermine our confidence and destroy dreams. In some instances, we may even seek the company of these people, yet wonder why we feel defeated and sad after being around them.
Indeed, we can find ourselves inundated with negatives messages outside our cubicles on a daily basis. How do we combat this type of energy and maintain a balanced and happy outlook on life?
Negative Folks: Their Problem Is Not Yours
There are many reasons why negative people exist, and at their core most are attention seekers who are themselves unhappy. As they say, misery loves company, and people with dismal attitudes hate to see anyone succeed as they view it as a reflection on them.
Just remember, their issues are not your problem. In the end, we cannot control how other people act, but we can control how we react. One way to do this is to cultivate a positive outlook and disposition by thinking outside the corporate box and leaving the negative behind. By developing this essential life talent, you will be able to filter out the detrimental images that leave modern workers feeling depleted and empty.
Tips for Maintaining a Daily Positive Outlook
Thinking outside the box in a business environment is not hard at all. Below are a few things that you can try that will enable you to maintain a life-affirming attitude even with dream stealers in your midst.
- Set a daily goal of finding a positive focus to fixate on when at work
- Keep your dreams to yourself, as most people will only talk them down
- Place your goals on a visual board where you alone can see them
- Locate a framed photo or picture of a relaxing and soothing setting and put it on your desk
- If someone says something negative, cancel it out by saying three positive things
- Keep positive quotes in or around your cubicle
- Stay away from rumormongers and those who never have a good thing to say about anyone or anything
Above all, try to take proactive steps to make your life dreams happen. These steps alone will keep you upbeat and enthusiastic. If you are uncertain of a direction you’d like to take in life, hire a consultant, look for a mentor, or ask trusted loved ones.
By taking these steps, you will eventually emerge from the stifling box. Remember, if you can dream it, you can do it—the time to take action is now.
